GTA 6 Reportedly Set for PC Release in First Quarter of 2027.

According to a report from GamesBeat, citing four anonymous industry sources, Rockstar Games plans to release the PC version of ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ in the first quarter of 2027.

The report indicates that the PC version will be released a few months after the launch of the versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which is scheduled for November 19, 2026.

The sources spoke to GamesBeat on the condition of anonymity to protect their professional relationships. Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, did not respond to a request for comment prior to publication.

If this timeline is accurate, it marks a significant departure from Rockstar’s established practice of delaying PC versions by more than a year.

‘Grand Theft Auto 5‘ was released on consoles in September 2013, while it arrived on PC in April 2015—a gap of approximately 19 months.

‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ was released on consoles in October 2018 and became available on PC in November 2019; this involved a delay of about 13 months.

A Shorter Wait Than Previous Rockstar Titles

The reported Q1 2027 window would reduce the console-to-PC gap for GTA 6 to a matter of months, rather than the extended waits that followed earlier Rockstar releases.

The original Grand Theft Auto 4 took approximately seven months to reach PC after its console debut in April 2008.

One factor cited by industry observers is the rapid development of PlayStation 5 emulation technology. Fan speculation on platforms such as Reddit has suggested Rockstar may be accelerating the PC release to preempt unofficial emulation that could allow PC users to play the console version without purchasing an official port.

A comment cited by one outlet read, ‘GTA 6 will probably be emulator ready a month after launch. It’s almost guaranteed at this point.’

Another consideration is the growing importance of the PC platform to Take-Two’s business. During a September 2026 earnings call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that PC sales now account for 45 to 50 percent of the company’s major title revenue.

‘The PC is becoming increasingly important to our company over time,’ Zelnick said. He added that the company’s strategy is generally to release games ‘for any platform that has a significant audience.’

Zelnick also addressed the console-first approach in earlier remarks, saying, ‘No, historically, Rockstar has released games on console first.’ He framed the decision around serving what he described as the company’s core audience before expanding to other platforms.

Online Component and UGC Tools May Drive Timing

The anticipated launch of a multiplayer component for GTA 6 may also be influencing the PC release schedule. In September 2026, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy stated during an interview at Tokyo Game Show that a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto Online was expected in 2027. The original GTA Online has generated more than $5 billion in revenue over its lifespan.

Rockstar has also signaled interest in user-generated content tools for GTA 6. The studio acquired the team behind FiveM, a popular PC-only roleplaying server platform for GTA 5, in 2023.

Roleplaying servers and modding communities are predominantly based on PC, making an earlier PC release strategically important for the long-term health of the game’s online ecosystem.

The reported PC window falls within Take-Two’s fiscal year 2027, which ends March 31, 2027. The company has projected net bookings of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion for the fiscal year, a roughly 20 percent increase over the prior year, with GTA 6 positioned as the primary growth driver.

Xbox Streaming Excludes PC

Additional context emerged in early October 2026 when Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball addressed reports that Microsoft had secured cloud streaming rights for GTA 6. In a post on X, Ball wrote that the game ‘will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.

‘The statement indicated that PC users would not have access to GTA 6 through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch, a restriction that observers noted would avoid undermining a native PC version arriving months later.

Retail pricing for the console version has also drawn attention. The standard edition of GTA 6 is listed at $80, with an Ultimate edition priced at $100. The Ultimate edition reportedly includes certain vehicle modifications and clothing options that will not be available in the base version, a detail that has generated discussion among the game’s community.
