Yami Gautam Dhar attended the trailer launch of her upcoming film Nayi Naveli in Mumbai on September 30, 2026. The event took place at IMAX Wadala and featured a grand celebration honoring her recent National Film Award win.
The launch was marked by a procession of 250 dhol players who welcomed Gautam to the venue. The premises were decorated to resemble a traditional wedding venue, and the actress arrived in a carriage-like vehicle accompanied by firecrackers, reflecting her character’s role as a new bride in the film .
This marks Gautam’s first major public event since winning the Best Actress award at the 72nd National Film Awards for her performance in Article 370. She received the honor from President Droupadi Murmu, while her husband Aditya Dhar accepted the Best Feature Film award for the same project .
Speaking at the trailer launch about the impact of the National Award, Gautam said, ‘I do feel that sense of responsibility even more.’ She added, ‘I think National Film Award is a really, really big honour and I think it’s a very true validation for any artist’ .
When asked whether the award had changed things for her, Gautam stated, ‘I will be lying if I say nothing changed after receiving the award.’ She explained that the recognition has made her more mindful of the responsibility she carries as an actor .
On the subject of her future ambitions, Gautam declined to elaborate. She said, ‘Sapne sirf aapko aur aapke man ko pata hone chahiye kya hain, baaki main zyada bolti nahi hoon. Main apne kaam mein vishwas karti hoon’ .
Discussing her approach to success, Gautam emphasized the importance of staying grounded. She said, ‘Pair bilkul zameen par hi hain aur zameen se jitney jude rahenge utna acha rahega’ .
Nayi Naveli is directed by Balaji Mohan and written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. The film is produced by Aanand L. Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow Productions, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios .
The film stars Gautam in the lead role as Mohini, a picture-perfect bride who enters a chaotic household in Meerut. Her arrival initially brings harmony to the family, but suspicion arises when her brother-in-law begins to believe she may be a daayan, a supernatural being .
The ensemble cast includes Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisth, Sonal Jha, Rajesh Dube, Aditya Kulshreshth, Sunita Rajwar, Susmita Mukherjee, and Prateek Pachori .
Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of SVOD Originals for Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video India, spoke at the trailer launch about the studio’s approach to selecting projects. He said, ‘At Amazon MGM Studios, we aim to back highly differentiated scripts—stories that are deeply rooted in the Indian context; that is important’ .
Madhok also emphasized the role of filmmaker passion in greenlighting decisions. He stated, ‘But I think when you are listening to a narration, it really comes down to the person on the other side and the passion with which they want to make the film. That passion came through loud and clear to us when Anand L. Rai, Himanshu, and Nidhi narrated the script’ .
Producer Aanand L. Rai described the film as a story that will surprise audiences. He said he loved the idea of the unique experience filled with fantasy, comedy, and adventure from the moment he first discussed the story with Himanshu Sharma. Rai called Gautam a natural choice for the role, stating that she brilliantly embodies the warmth and mischief required in her character .
